INTRODUCTION

The project is about the production of an Architecture that is formed by driving a set of morphological systems that emphasize connections within the interior space and exterior envelope of our building, in order to create collaborative working spaces of different sizes and types, that have intimate dialogue with each other functionally and formally.

The project begins with an assembly of strong formal objects and 3D samplings from the neighbourhood of China Town. By collecting a set of spacial and formal fragments from its urban context, we then refine these solids and envelopes which form the basis of our design concept for our project.

Our building has consisted of three massing which are tied together with landform objects within the context, which comprises of complex circulatory voids which are then transformed into workspace of various kinds that situated at different levels of the building.

The ground floor of the building serves as a lobby and retail areas, while on the outside, there are public space including open seating areas and gardens. More intimate and private working spaces including private offices, co working open offices and meeting spaces are located on different floors of the tower buildings. The interior spaces of the three towers are ultimately connected through a set of circulation system including stairs and footbridges. While the exterior envelope is framed and connected with shell like structures that act as glazing mullions, as well as lighting units at night time, thus further emphasizing the sense of connection within the form and spacial organisation of the building itself.

We have developed a strategy to morph various textures in congruence with their spatial properties, which accentuates the hierarchy of the typologies in our building.

Through reprocessing some texture images through Processing (a java based program), we created glitch textures that helps to enhance the dimensionality of the building forms. The series of block towers are given a linear, cool color to suggest clarity and directionality of its form. The solid color of bridges further amplify the circulation flow in relation to open internal connective spaces. These are overlaid with a warm abstract hue pattern.

With reference to Charles Rennie Mackintosh’s Hill House, the interior spaces are assembled through aligning high-backed objects to further detail and act as diving partitions to create programmatic spaces within the building. Three components are formalized and composed into deployable fragments, from small-scaled items like furniture to structural elements such as beams and column. These fragments are recomposed in a systematic manner to form workspaces that serve different programmatic requirements.

We therefore intend to generate a continuous setting that encourages the exchange of awareness and expertise defined through superimposing and reconfiguring this set of discrete elements, to form intimate niches that engage as workspaces for multiple functions.
